Çatalca Travel Guide: Things to See and Do

10 June 2026 · 5 min read

In the north-west of İstanbul, far from the city crowds, lies a lush green district: Çatalca. With its lakes, forests, caves and Black Sea coastline, Çatalca is a treasure waiting to be discovered by nature lovers. If you'd like to add a few stops to your Tiny House stay, here are the highlights.

Nature and lakes

The area around Lake Terkos (Durusu) is ideal for a calm walk and photography. The wide body of water and surrounding greenery instantly make you feel far from the city.

İnceğiz Caves

One of Çatalca's most interesting spots, the İnceğiz Caves are known for rock-cut chambers and monastery ruins dating back to prehistoric times. Where nature meets history, it's perfect for a short trip.

Çilingoz Nature Park and beaches

On the Black Sea coast, Çilingoz Nature Park is one of those rare places where forest meets the sea. With walking trails, picnic areas and quiet coves, you can spend the whole day here. The beaches of Yalıköy and Karacaköy are also great for fresh fish and sea air.

Local flavours

Çatalca's fertile land is reflected on the table too. Village breakfasts, homemade jams, fresh produce and barbecue are local staples. Don't forget to pick up seasonal goods from the local markets.

How to plan it

A morning walk in the nature park, a cave or lake tour in the afternoon, and a barbecue with a fire pit in your own garden in the evening… Çatalca lets you combine an active day with a peaceful evening in the same getaway — all just an hour from İstanbul.
